CLARKE COUNTY FAIR 4-H & FFA EXHIBITORS' RULES
NEW FOR 2017: ONLINE REGISTRATION FOR 4-H/FFA LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS
All 4-H and FFA exhibitors must have their contact information, livestock being shown, and housing of livestock details entered by March 15, 2017. If there are any changes after March entry, we ask the exhibitor to contact firstname.lastname@example.org so changes can be approved and corrected online.
1. All 4-H and FFA exhibitors must be at least 9 years old by September 30, 2017, and not have had their 19th birthday before January 1, 2017. Cloverbud members are not eligible for competition.
2. 4-H members are required to attend a minimum of 6 monthly club meetings held between October 1, 2016 and the Sunday of the Fair 2017. If a youth joins two clubs, they must attend 6 meetings of each club to be eligible. If a member cannot attend a meeting, he/she may conduct or attend an activity approved by the 4-H Extension Agent. In order to show at the Clarke County Fair, a 4‑Her who has previously been enrolled in the Clarke County 4-H program must be enrolled as a member and declare their respective animal projects by January 1, year of the show. ALL new members must be enrolled as a member and declare their respective animal projects by March 1, year of the show and attend 5 monthly club meetings.
3. All FFA members are graded on their participating at all FFA meetings. Attendance is mandatory unless the student is sick or currently enrolled at a college, university, or vocational school.
4. In order to show in the youth 4-H and FFA livestock and horse shows, members are required to participate in at least two of the following activities (one from Section A and one from Section B):
A. All 4-Hand FFALivestock Exhibitors must participate in One of the following on a county, district, or state level between October 1, 2016 and August 1, 2017:
* Active member of one of the following 4-H or FFA judging teams and must participate in at least one contest – dairy, dairy bowl, livestock, horse, hippology, poultry, stockmen’s, forestry, land appreciation, meats identification, tractor operations, or parliamentary procedure. (One can participate as an individual in one of these contests and still qualify.)
*Competitive 4-H Shooting Education Events
* 4-H Day Trip to the State Capitol
* 4-H or FFA Public Speaking Contest, 4-H Share-the-Fun, 4-H Presentation Contest, or 4-H Fashion Revue Contest. (In the competitive events of Share-the-Fun and Fashion Revue, members can be a participant or Master of Ceremonies.)
* 4-H Winter Camp, 4-H Summer Camp, 4-H Lamb Camp, 4-H Horse Camp, 4-H Goat Camp. (You may attend as a camper or counselor.)
* 4-H Congress, Citizenship Washington Focus, FFA State Convention, or FFA Washington Leadership Conference
* 4-H Interstate Exchange
* Activity approved by 4-H Agent or FFA Advisor
B. All 4-H Livestock Exhibitors must participate in one County Fundraiser with the 4-H Volunteer Leaders’ Association: Dinner & Auction and/or 4-H Volunteer Leaders’ Association Lamb and Goat Show
All FFA Livestock Exhibitors are expected to participate in the annual Citrus Fruit Sales and other projects/activities delegated to them by the FFA Executive Committee and/or Agriculture Teacher.
Except in extenuating circumstances (such as extended illness or injury), those who do not participate in one of the above activities will show in the Open Non 4-H/FFA Show.
5. All 4-H and FFA record books must be current and legible, and checked by the second Monday in July of the current year. If not current and legible, the 4-H and FFA member will have 48 hours to bring the project book up-to-date and have it rechecked by the Extension Office or FFA Advisor. Current and legible records are required on each animal being shown.
6. 4-H and FFA members are required to turn in a completed project record book on each species (breeding and/or market) of animals by the second Monday in September of the current year in order to be eligible to exhibit in that animal species at the next annual Clarke County Fair.The Fair Committee or Species Chairman may require proof of record book completion. Failure to comply may result in disqualification from the current year fair.
7. To exhibit an animal at the Fair, the 4-H/FFA member must own their respective animal projects by the ownership dates stated in each department of the fair book and adhere to the requirements of the animal project.Beef—December 1; Horse, Sheep, Breeding Sheep, Swine, Poultry, Rabbit, Goat—June 1.
8. 4-H and FFA members MUST participate in at least one organized clean-up effort prior to the Fair. The Extension Office will give members who are unable to make the clean-up dates a separate clean-up assignment.
9. Any time a 4-H or FFA member is in the show ring, whether showing or selling an animal, the following dress code must be followed: Dress slacks or pants are preferred; however, jeans are permissible providing they are free of holes. Wear a collared shirt or blouse that is tucked in. All clothing is to be clean. For handling livestock, leather shoes or boots are strongly recommended. No hats or chewing gum will be permitted in the show ring.
10. As exhibitor at the Fair, youth are representing the 4-H and FFA programs. During the Fair week, youth exhibitors are not to wear clothing with inappropriate language or gestures. Exhibitors are not allowed to be in possession of guns, drugs, or alcohol while on fair property.
11. ALL4-H and FFA youth livestock fair exhibitors and one parent or guardian must attend the “Clarke County Fair 4-H and FFA Youth Exhibitor Meeting” in order to exhibit a livestock animal at the fair that year. Youth 18 years of age and older are not required to have a parent/guardian attend the meeting.
12. If an animal is not housed on property owned or rented by immediate family, then the 4-H/FFA exhibitor must notify the respective committee or Extension Office in writing where the animal is housed and why and receive approval.
13. 4-H and FFA livestock exhibits can only be fitted by the exhibitor and the immediate family members (i.e. mother, father, brother, sister) or another Clarke County 4‑H/FFA livestock exhibitor showing the same species in the current year at the Clarke County Fair. Committee members may offer care to animals when needed; however, they may not fit animals unless they are an immediate family member (
.mother, father, brother, sister).
14. 4-H and FFA livestock exhibits are only to be shown the exhibitor. If a 4-H or FFA livestock exhibitor has two (2) or more animals in the same class, only another 4-H or FFA livestock exhibitor showing the same species in the current year at the Clarke County Fair may show one of them.
15. To be eligible for participation in the 4-H and FFA Livestock Shows, exhibitors must nominate their project animals at the official specie weigh-in. Typically, Beef animal weigh- in is the first Saturday in December and Sheep, Swine, and Goat weigh-in is the first Saturday in June.
16. To be eligible for participation in the 4-H and FFA Livestock Shows, exhibitors must have their project animals housed within Clarke County from the period of time between the weigh-in for that species and the week of the Fair. Any unusual circumstances will have to be approved by the Extension Office, FFA Advisor, Livestock Committee Chairmen, and Clarke County Fair Executive Committee.
17. All youth exhibiting beef, sheep, swine, goats, poultry, rabbits and dairy must be YMQA (Youth Meat Quality Assurance) certified before August 1, 2017.
18. If a youth is determined to be in violation of any of the rules listed above or the departmental rules the youth can be banned from showing and selling in any livestock project at the current Clarke County Fair and will be banned from showing and selling one additional year in the livestock project area they were determined to have been in violation of the rules and regulations.
